ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Northern Lights is a watercolor painting by artist Linda Okazaki and depicts various images derived from the artist's dreams. She notes, "sometimes by looking at the simplest things with a slight shift in our perception we get a glimpse of the underlying nature of things. The making of paintings can in the best of circumstances be one of those kinds of explorations."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Battle Ground School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Port Townsend, Washington-based artist Linda Okazaki creates narrative, landscape, and still-life paintings.
Okazaki earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, in 1974. She was a member of Washington State University's Fine Arts Department for seven years. She currently teaches at the Port Townsend School of the Arts on the Olympic Peninsula in Northwestern Washington, where she also lives and paints.
