ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Sensing Spring is part of a two-part fused glass artwork by artist Alex Hirsch. One panel evokes spring moving into summer and the other fall moving into winter, in the Pacific Northwest. The abstract imagery expresses the feelings of the seasons through their color, texture, and composition. Hirsch also wrote a poem for the artworks that explores relationships between color and experiencing nature.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Puyallup School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Portland, Oregon-based artist Alex Hirsch creates glass artworks and works on paper.
Hirsch received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and printmaking from the University of Michigan in 1987. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1993.
