ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Frank Samuelson created the three-paneled painting River, Mountain, Forest to celebrate the natural landscape surrounding Silverdale Elementary School, on the Kitsap Peninsula in South Puget Sound. Each panel features a distinct landscape and moment in time. He placed the paintings in different hallways to mimic what it is like walking on a trail. He notes, "My method of thinking of this environment is to imagine a viewpoint where the observer can take in the sights in one long glance. They are installed in three separate places so one cannot see more than the one they are in front of. You have to move on to the next to view another, leaving the just seen behind."

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Port Townsend-based artist Frank Samuelson creates colorful and imaginative paintings and murals for pubilc spaces. The natural world is an important theme and inspiration for Samuelson who notes: "Moving and playing with form and color are just a thrill that I can’t deny myself. The essence of water is also an important piece of all puzzles I paint."
Samuelson received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Central Washington University in Ellensburg. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, in 1976. He lives and works in Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula in Northwest Washington.
