Mother of All, 1988

Jackie Hunsaker
(American, born 1947)

Location: Pleasant Glade Elementary, Lacey

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Jackie Hunsaker created Mother of All using vine and compressed charcoal, as well as black, white, and gray oil pastels. Animal images from "Natural History" magazine, as well as walks around Green Lake in Seattle inspired her figures. She describes this drawing as "a rather unlikely combination of wild and domestic animals meeting at watering hole with a goddess who protects. I like how all of the animals are peaceful together. They seem to be posing for a family portrait."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Thurston Public Schools.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised in North Carolina and Louisiana, artist Jackie Hunsaker moved to the Northwest in 1968. In her paintings Hunsaker depicts a rich visual vocabulary of varying images while exploring themes of memory, family, and life experience.
