ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Late artist John Stamets' photograph Pike Place Market 8-5-86 captures a bustling street scene in Seattle's famous public market. He took the image using a panoramic camera. It is part of his book "Portrait of a Market" published by Real Comet Press in 1987. He noted, "The panoramic format, with its broad expanse of vision, is well-suited for portraying the cluttered culture of a marketplace. This was the key idea behind my book."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
