Enlighten, 2018

Micajah Bienvenu
(American, born 1963)

Location: South Seattle College, Seattle

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Enlighten is a monumental, kinetic sculpture by artist Micajah Bienvenu that celebrates "community, inclusivity and inspiration." Three spiral columns rise from a stainless steel turntable. The sculpture rotates with wind or human power. It is covered with interwoven sanding marks that add an ever-changing holographic finish that changes with the viewer's perspective and the artwork's movement.

The local art selection committee wanted an interactive artwork that would create a gathering place and focal point for students, at the center of the South Seattle College campus.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with South Seattle College.
