(American, born 1947)

Location: Lakeridge Elementary, Mercer Island

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Escape is a stylized painting by artist Jackie Hunsaker. The composition suggests a landscape that is both familiar and foreign. The artist notes that her childhood in North Carolina influenced her art. She states, "As an adult, I am still creating a "home" as I draw and paint. I employ elements and colors from the natural world. The red land, green trees and brown rivers of the South are still included in the work. My visual vocabulary has been extended by experience and travel. I now can use the toucans of Costa Rica and the cacti of Mexico."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Mercer Island School District.
