ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Port Hole View is part of artist Robert Demar's 'Nautical Highways' series of photographs that capture and study the ferries that service the San Juan Islands. Ninety of the photographs were published as a book by the artist and his wife, Robin Atkins.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Stanwood School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Photographer Robert Demar captures images that celebrate nature and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest landscape.

Demar was born in California and moved to Seattle as a young boy. He started taking photos and working in his own dark room in the 1970s. He has been based on San Juan Island, in North Puget Sound, Western Washington, since 1989.
