Feather Series #11, 2000
Joyce Lopez
(American, born 1941)
Location: Arthur H. Smith Elementary, Grandview
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Feather Series #11 is part of artist Joyce Lopez’ group of photographs that seek to capture motion and the feeling of weightlessness in a still image. She notes, “The plumage of birds is magnificent and I wanted to capture the moment in which the lightness of a feather is seen floating down. I also wanted to focus on the beauty of the feather's details and moiré pattern as it gently glides to join the two feathers at rest.” A "moiré" pattern is created by overlaying repeating patterns at an angle to produce interference and a new pattern.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Grandview School District.
