ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Kitten on the Keys is part of artist Kathleen Coyle's group of mixed-media artworks that combine textile elements with wax-resist painting, printing, and collaged elements. These works feature cat and fish motifs in brightly colored scenes. Coyle notes that "the cat is a musical character and the fish are her friends and backup singers." The title of this piece references a jazz song by Edward E. Confrey, written in 1921.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
