ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Late artist Robert Sperry created this group of three ceramic tile murals for Mullin Road Elementary School. Each panel comprises nine ceramic tiles. He glazed these tiles in black before their first firing. He then used a white vitreous slip to create the cracked, textured surface. He fired the tiles a second time to create this effect.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Spokane School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Late artist Robert Sperry (1927-1998) created ceramic sculpture. He served as Professor of Ceramics at the University of Washington in Seattle for over thirty years. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1953. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in 1953.
