ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Make Believe in Homemade Ritual is a photograph by late artist Janet Pietsch. She created the composition using a layered exposure, which allowed her to move objects around the space. She noted, "Rituals are part of all our lives. This photograph is meant to be about significant rituals to which we adhere our beliefs and values, as well as our deep feelings and innermost thoughts."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Ferndale School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Janet Pietsch (1952-1986) was a Seattle-based photographer. She studied with artist Paul Berger at the University of Washington, where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1983. She previously recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in design from the University of Illinois. She served as a teaching assistant for photography courses at the University of Washington in 1982 to 1983.
