Double Vee, 1985
Barbara Breckenfeld
(American, born 1953)
Location: Friday Harbor Elementary, Friday Harbor
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Double Vee is a painted wooden relief by artist Barbara Breckenfeld. The composition explores space and dimensions using color, pattern, and texture. She notes, "My inspirations are textiles and architecture, color, texture, form, and structure. This relationship to fibers is reinforces even in rubbing paint off the wood – revealing its woodiness, and a moiré pattern!" Moireé is an optical illusion created by shifting and overlapping patterns that confuse the eye.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with San Juan Island School District.
