Near the Dalles, Oregon, 1988
Dan Powell
(American, born 1950)
Location: Ridgetop Middle School, Silverdale
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Dan Powell captured the photograph Near the Dalles, Oregon using a large format camera. Using this kind of camera captures the rich tones and fine detail of the Columbia River Gorge landscape. He notes, "My work comes from a personal affiliation with this land, and within that I use the land as a giant studio. Form is of great concern to me, transforming these places into photographs which provide a great deal of information as visual description, but which also deal with the places in a poetic and lyrical fashion."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
