ABOUT THE ARTWORK
King Fisher is part of a series of still-life paintings by artist Jose Orantes composed with a central chair image that is decorated with or comprised of fantastical imagery, patterns, designs, and scenes. The imagery for this piece was inspired by the artist's memories of the jungle landscape in his native Guatemala.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Yakima School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Seattle-based artist Jose Orantes creates vibrantly colored and patterned paintings and public murals that explore universal and personal themes. Born and raised in Guatemala, Orantes studied painting and sculpture at the National School of Art in Guatemala. He has also taught art in schools and other venues across Washington.
