ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Painted during the artist Edwin Landis' travels in the Dominican Republic, Para el Campeonato translates to "In the Championship" and depicts stylized baseball players in a tropical setting. Using humorous and imaginative visual twists, Landis references life in the Dominican Republic and the common game of "Batia" played by Dominican children using bottle caps.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle School District.
