ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Lapis Days portrays the vibrant colors of a spring garden scene in late afternoon. Inspired by the gemstone Lapis lazuli, which was used as an ultramarine pigment in early paintings, the composition is spotted by beads of vibrant blue, and framed by a layered blue sky. Regarding her exploration of color and natural forms, artist Judy McMillan notes, "look close at nature, there is a complexity beyond imagining, a classroom in microcosm, inviting lifelong study."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Kent School District.
