ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Quarry is a wall sculpture created by artist James Lapp to resemble a framed painting. He sourced the gravel from his driveway. He notes, "The result is less a picture of a landscape than it is a window into a process, a process that reveals, to some extent, its mode of creation."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Mercer Island School District.

Northwest artist James Lapp creates formal and figurative sculptures, many with kinetic elements, that combine stone and steel. His materials reflect his interest in the relationship between technology and nature.
