ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist John Moilanen created Gillnetter; circa 1950 as an exploration of the static and dynamic forces found in man's interaction with nature. In this "conceptual realist" painting, Moilanen depicts "the lonely Virgil of a lone fisherman in the morning hours of damp checking his set of nets."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle School District.
