A Pond, 2014

Bill Braun
(American, born 1955)

Location: Peninsula College, Port Angeles

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Bill Braun created the painting A Pond using "trompe l'oeil" visual illusions. This French term translates to "trick of the eye." He appears to have composed a simple artwork of a pond with wildlife from wrinkled cut and layered paper. In fact, he executed this richly detailed composition in acrylic paint in a hyper-realistic style to look like paper cutouts. This artwork is located in the Early Childhood Education Center which has a wide variety of children and adult visitors.

Curator Kathleen Garrett selected this artwork as part of a collection of artworks for Peninsula College in Port Angeles. The artworks installed in the Allied Health Building emphasize bright colors and unusual materials. This building is used for Nursing and Early Childhood Education programs.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula College.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
