The State Art Collection is located throughout Washington under the day-to-day stewardship of the K-12 public schools, colleges, universities, and state agencies that host the artwork. ArtsWA is responsible for the inventory, restoration, and conservation of the State Art Collection as funded by the state Legislature. Conservation activities are conducted by our staff conservation technician, as well as by contracted fine art conservators.
ArtCare: Collections Management Policy for Washington’s State Art Collection outlines ArtsWA’s collections management policies and procedures, including those on artwork conservation, deaccession, and rights and reproductions.
The Materials and Fabrication Handbook documents recommendations and requirements for materials, fabrication methods, and placement for all newly commissioned artwork. This resource supports artists in their efforts to design works durable enough for the active public environment.
