ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Landscape of a Western Mind #27 is part of a series of photographs by artist William Thompson. He describes the series as “thirty five years of exploring the earth with heart, brain, and eyes.” In this image, "colors and land forms were isolated to abstract the familiar landscape image."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Lake Washington School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
William Thompson is a Poulsbo, Western Washington-based fine art and commercial photographer and filmmaker.
Thompson earned a PhD in Cultural Anthropology before pursuing a career in photography. He started his career with National Geographic, traveling worldwide for more than a decade to document people and places, including the first aerial coverage of Mount Everest. Thompson later moved into the world of commercial photography, working with Northwest companies such as Starbucks and Boeing.
