Fair Play, 1986

Lorna Jordan
(American, born 1954, died 2021)

Location: Northshore School District, Bothell

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Lorna Jordan captured the colorful and luminous glow of a fairgrounds at night in her Fair Play Cibachrome print. She created the design in 1986 by drawing on a graphics tablet and manipulating the image and colors using a computer graphics system called IBIS. The print is an early example of how technology can impact our conceptual and creative process. Jordan stated that "drawing on the computer has revolutionized the way I think about my artwork as well as the way I create it."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Northshore School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Seattle-based, environmental artist Lorna Jordan (1954-2021) created artworks that blur the boundaries between sculpture, theater, media, architecture, and ecology. She created public installations, often using sustainable materials. Her works invite reflection about our sense of place and our relationship to nature. In her own words, “My works are more than objects – they are ideas, places, and actions.”

Jordan received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1976. She later studied at the University of Washington in Seattle.
