Silver Tower with Bird, 1994
Gerry Newcomb
(American, born 1951)
Location: John Newbery Elementary, Wenatchee
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
‘Silver Tower with Bird’ is a glass sculpture by artist Gerry Newcomb. The vertical composition is inspired by a sculpture called ‘Endless Column’ by famous Italian sculptor Constantine Brancusi. The glass sculpture features hard edges and curved forms. The artist notes, “My ideas for my work start with the ideals of man constructing something for himself. Not only a structure to be in as shelter but structures for larger community. Meeting places, storage places, manufacturing spaces, places to travel through, religious spaces.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Wenatchee School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
