Marilyn in Chartres, 1990
Anne Healy
(American, born 1939)
Location: John Muir Elementary School, Seattle
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Marilyn in Chartres is inspired by Hollywood and the European medieval cathedrals that date from 1040 to 1540. The geometric patterns are based on the Rose window at the Chartres Cathedral in France. A central, faint line drawing depicts Marilyn Monroe in the 1954 musical movie "There's No Business Like Show Business," elevating her to a goddess or saint-like figure against the Rose window.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle School District.
