ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Descent into Earth is a painting by artist Claudia Cave that depicts a figure retreating into a tunnel as a symbol of self-contemplation and a search for answers. Part of a series the artist painted after turning forty, these works seek to convey "looking back, letting go, making choices and moving forward."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Oak Harbor School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Oregon-based artist Claudia Cave creates paintings that explore color, symbol, and form and express her personal experiences and perspectives. A long-time teacher, Cave earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Idaho.
