Fall Chair, 1991

Julie Paschkis
(American, born 1957)

Location: Artz-Fox Elementary School, Mabton

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Julie Paschkis created Fall Chair out of repurposed food tins that have been cut and hammered onto a painted wood base. It is part of her series of collaged paintings celebrating everyday objects such as teapots, cups, chairs, shoes, and pencils. She notes, "I like to be at home and these pictures are reflections of home life. It's not very lofty, but the paintings probably show my love of objects. I love dishes! I love shoes! I love fruit! I would start by trying to draw an object in as straightforward a way as I could. Sometimes some emotional content would seem to come in the back door; a teacup would seem homesick, a chair would seem lonely, or fat and happy. I tried to keep open to the painting as it developed."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Mabton School District.
