ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Forest, Mountain, Sound is a large painting by Michael Brophy showing the environment surrounding Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines on Puget Sound. The 11 x 11 foot artwork is installed so that it can be seen from the school's main or second floors. Brophy notes, "The school and Des Moines itself have a maritime orientation, facing the Sound... It is a view with the potential of the future for the students of Mt. Rainier High School."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Portland, Oregon-based artist Michael Brophy creates realist paintings that depict the beauty, subtlety, and complexity of the Pacific Northwest landscape.

Brophy studied at the University of Oregon in Eugene and at the Studio Arts College International in Florence, Italy. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, in 1985.
