Early Morning, 2002

Robert Connell
(American, born 1947)

Location: Crossroads High School, Granite Falls

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Robert Connell began his northwest landscape Early Morning on location using black Japanese sumi ink. Bringing the painting into his studio, Connell added color by layering gouache paint using a printmaking brayer. This piece is part of the artist's body of work that uses the negative space created by exposed, unpainted paper to imply water and sky. This technique brings together realistic and abstract elements in his compositions.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Granite Falls School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
