ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Pat De Caro's linoleum cut print Proximity depicts two figures separated by a curtain, and is composed to highlight a graphic style and strong contrast between positive and negative space. The artist notes that the piece suggests a narrative about interior and exterior space. She notes that this narrative "refers to a changing relationship between inner and outer realities, and the influence of memory on our perceptual experiences."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Stanwood School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Seattle-based artist Pat De Caro creates paintings, drawings and prints that explore narrative imagery. She teaches are at Bellevue College and has exhibited her work internationally.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pat De Caro has lived in the Northwest since 1980. She studied art at Temple University and the Tyler School of Art, both in Philadelphia. She received a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Washington in Seattle. She has also taught art at Seattle University, Western Washington University, the University of Washington, and the Pratt Institute. She received the 2012 Twining Humber Award for lifetime artistic achievement.
