Third Mesa is an abstract landscape painting by artist Byron Gardner. It is part of his body of work inspired by the relationships of color and form found in the landscape of the American Southwest.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Evergreen School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Byron Gardner (1930-1992) was a celebrated Portland, Oregon-based painter and printmaker. He created expressive abstract compositions inspired by the western landscape. He served as professor of art at Portland State University from 1967 to 1992. He was a founding artist for Portland Art Museum's Rental Sales Gallery, which began in 1959.
