Location: Washington State University, Pullman

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Portal is a multi-element sculptural installation created by artist Buster Simpson for the Fine Arts Plaza at Washington State University. Each component provides a unique platform and space for the fine arts community to create and display temporary artworks. Students can use basalt plinths and galvanized pallets to display sculptures and small objects. Billboard lighting borders a slate wall, providing a blank surface for chalk drawings. Behind the wall, students can use a glowing blue light box to project or illuminate digital images and transparencies. Simpson describes each element as a "portal for expression."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State University.
