Over Fortune Creek, 1996
Debra Davis
(American, born 1960)
Location: Washington State Patrol - Vehicle Inspection Site, Vancouver, Vancouver
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Over Fortune Creek was inspired by artist Debra Davis' memories and sketches of a summer day working as a trail technician for the U.S. Forest Service in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state. The painting captures the beauty and solitude of the landscape. She notes "The only tracks I saw besides my own were made by elk. Every fifteen minutes a jet went over, descending into Sea-Tac Airport. It seemed odd to me that I had spent all day walking to a place that jets could fly over in less than a minute. The passengers could have no idea of the richness of the world below them."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Licensing.
