Northwest Landscape, 1992
Michael Dal Cerro
(American, born 1953)
Location: Orondo Elementary School, Orondo
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Northwest Landscape is a print by artist Michael Dal Cerro. It is part of a body of work created while the artist was living in the Pacific Northwest. The imagery reflects the artist’s interest in how suburban development has affected and destroyed nature. The artist notes that it is “getting harder to find a landscape man has not had a hand in shaping…By dividing the composition into separate sections I was able to focus on several aspects of the same scene at one time. The houses and cars might be what the forest land is replaced with or they could be just another part of the already existing larger landscape.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Orondo School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
New Jersey-based artist Michael Dal Cerro utilizes painting, printmaking and digital media to create elaborately imagined compositions. Interested in the invention of forms and visual language, his works play with conventional perspective and figuration. Dal Cerro lived in Seattle, Washington between 1988 and 1993. Many of his artworks from that period depict imagery of the Pacific Northwest. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University in 1975.
