ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Carousel Horses is part of artist Jose Orantes' body of paintings that combine intricate patterns and figures to "represent the magic of the harmony between animals and their environment." Orantes notes that the composition of this piece gives viewers "the sensation of action and the feeling that the horses are jumping at you."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Battle Ground School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Seattle-based artist Jose Orantes creates vibrantly colored and patterned paintings and public murals that explore universal and personal themes. Born and raised in Guatemala, Orantes studied painting and sculpture at the National School of Art in Guatemala. He has also taught art in schools and other venues across Washington.
