Vienna Waltz, 1992-1993
Cynthia Dobie
(American, born 1960)
Location: Puyallup School District, Puyallup
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Cynthia Dobie constructed the mixed media painting Vienna Waltz using clay tiles and plaster. It is part of her series of "Portals" meant to transport the viewer to a different place. The compositions feature architectural, ornamental, and organic images. She notes, "In a process to capture the textural beauty of the organic world and the tactile sense of man-made objects my sculptures and wall reliefs use a variety of mediums. Both urban and rural environments can evoke the sense of possibility, mystery and surprise. I want my work to evoke the same sensation or memory of that sensation."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Puyallup School District.
