A Journey Around Mount Rainier, 2007
Judith Caldwell
(American, born 1950)
Location: Graham Kapowsin High School, Graham
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Judith Caldwell's A Journey Around Mount Rainier is located around the foyer of Graham Kapowsin High School, which has an impressive view of the mountain. The artwork is comprised of eleven low relief bronze panels showing the most popular viewpoints around the perimeter of the Mount Rainier. By beginning at any one of the panels and going around in a circle, the viewer can effectively circumnavigate the mountain. This artwork is also designed to carry on a conversation with a second artwork ‘The Mount Rainier Vision Chair’ which is a bronze sculpture that further commemorates the mountain and is mounted outside of the high school. Graham Kapowsin High School is located in a community that sits as a gateway to Mount Rainier National Park.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
