ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Consuelo Soto Murphy's painting "Uvas Blancas (White Grapes)" is part of a series about farming and farm workers. This topic is close to Soto Murphy, who grew up working and playing in the agricultural fields of Sunnyside, Washington, where her Mexican migrant family settled down.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Yakima Valley Community College.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Consuelo Soto Murphy is a Richland, Washington-based artist and educator. Her paintings reflect her heritage as a migrant worker in the Yakima Valley of Central Washington. She loves the fields she grew up in and wants people to experience the beauty of that land.
Born in the Yakima Valley, Soto Murphy earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Art Education and Studio Art from Eastern Washington University in Cheney. She teaches art at Richland High School in Southeastern Washington. She was honored with a 2024 Washington State Governor's Arts and Heritage Award.
