ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Fleeting Movement is part of artist Joyce Majiski's series about the migratory Porcupine Caribou Herd that live in the Yukon, far northern Canada. This piece captures the caribou herd crossing the Firth River as part of their annual 600 mile migration. The herd and surrounding environment are threatened by oil development.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highland School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Joyce Majiski's work examines our connection to the natural world, wild spaces, and environmental issues. She considers herself a printmaker but she also creates paintings, photography, letterpress, sculpture, and site-specific installations.
