Year of the Dragon: Happy Chinese Lunar New Year (2024)

In celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year (February 10, 2024) – the Year of the Dragon – we are pleased to present a selection of artworks in the State Art Collection that feature dragons and dragon-like creatures. (There are not many dragon-themed artworks in our Collection but we are working on improving that metric.)

The Dragon is a powerful and lucky creature in Chinese mythology, representing courage, creativity, and innovation. Dragon people are charismatic, ambitious, adventurous, and fearless. They are not afraid to pursue their dreams and goals.

In Chinese astrology, each year is related to a Chinese zodiac animal according to a 12-year cycle. Those who were born in the years 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940, and 1928 are known as Dragons.

Happy Year of the Dragon!
