ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Machu Picchu #2 is part of photographer Eduardo Calderón's body of images taken during his travels in Latin America. This high contrast composition was taken in Peru. It creates a stunning scene combining the majestic landscape with monumental elements. Calderón notes, "The perfect landscape for me would have no evidence of life whatsoever."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Social and Health Services.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

A student of anthropology, Northwest photographer Eduardo Calderón creates artworks that invite imaginative interpretations. He chooses his compositions to encourage visual and narrative ambiguity. Born in Arequipa, Peru, many of his photographs were taken during travels to Latin America and Europe. He has lived and worked in Washington State since 1975.
