Selby Pool, 1983

Jacob Kohn
(American, born 1942)

Location: Washington State Patrol - District VIII Headquarters, Bremerton, Bremerton

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Selby Pool is part of artist Jacob Kohn’s body of paintings with scenes of water. They highlight the play of color, light, and reflection on and below the water’s surface. The Latin saying “natura artis magistra” which means, “Nature is the teacher of art”, inspires these works. Kohn notes that he uses “the realism of nature as a subject because it presents a language that best expresses the abstract energy and emotional color that I find essential in art.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Spokane School District.
