ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Late photographer James Sahlstrand lived in Ellensburg, Washington where he taught at Central Washington University. This photograph is part of a series of five landscape compositions that capture the dynamic interplay of light, shadow, and color to be found in nature.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Natural Resources.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist James Sahlstrand (1936-2009) was a nationally recognized photographer. Based in Ellensburg, Central Washington, he taught at Central Washington University for more than 30 years. He received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Minnesota.
