ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A Young Woman is a monotype print created by WD40+, the artist team of Walt Lieberman and Dick Weiss. They mainly create glass artworks, but they use printmaking to develop ideas and images. They collaborate on these prints by first starting separately. Then they exchange the print and finish the other's composition. They note, "Printing was a revelation to us. We could try out ideas much faster than we could on a glass piece. In addition, the process of printing had a magic of its own."

Monotypes are unique prints made by painting directly onto the printing plate with inks. Only one print can be made from the plate. The image is transferred onto paper using a printing press.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bellingham School District.
