Air Show #4, 2002

Michael Stone
(American, born 1945)

Location: Washington State Arts Commission, Olympia

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Michael Stone created Air Show #4 by combining a background photograph, taken in the 1970s, with a digitally scanned and duplicated image of a toy airplane. The composition is part of the artist's body of work depicting toys and flight, and is influenced by memories of his father, a technical illustrator for Douglas Aircraft. He notes, "my creativity is fueled by a desire to make images that effectively show time and change in a two dimensional space. I use the toys because I have a need to make a playful image that connects to my youth."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Edmonds School District.
