ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Late photographer Sam Kimura captured the majestic landscape of Alaska's Denali National Park in his photograph Layered Mountains . The image was taken using a large format view camera, which Kimura noted "forces me to work slowly and deliberately, contributing to a more intense seeing experience and attention to detail."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Mabton School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Sam Kimura (1928-1996) was a master photographer, based in Anchorage, Alaska. The son of one of the first Japanese immigrant families to settle in Anchorage, his life and work were influential to the community. Kimura taught at the University of Alaska at Anchorage for many years.
