ABOUT THE ARTWORK
False Door #1 is part of artist Michael Caldwell's body of abstract artworks featuring a central rectangular shape. He notes that this shape serves as a "visual doorway that admits the viewer to the realm of memory." He used concentrated paint pigment, called Paintstik, to create the colorful composition. He built up layers using a palette knife and masking tape to achieve clear lines.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Issaquah School District.
