Dragoon Creek in the Game Farm, 1980

Charles Palmer
(American, born 1943)

Location: Eastmont High School, Wenatchee

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Dragoon Creek in the Game Farm is an impressionistic painting by artist Charles Palmer. Layers of color creating an overall impression of mood and light characterize this style of painting. He based the scene on a lush section of creek near his home in Deer Park, Eastern Washington. He notes, "It was late summer and there was a contrasting combination of still green grasses near the water and dried brush. The time of day was a hazy, quiet 4 or 5 o'clock in the afternoon… the time before a low sun causes the light to change toward the yellows and oranges and before the air in the shadows is very cool."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Eastmont School District.
