Catalyst, 1985
Peter Juvonen
(American | Finnish, born 1951)
Location: Marysville Middle School, Marysville
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
'Catalys' is a colorful and energetic abstract painting by artist Peter Juvonen. He began the composition with a black background. He notes that this technique “gives me the sense of drawing with light rather than line. I approach my painting by first building my forms, then I give them surface color and I finish by casting light throughout the painting. I am intrigued with man-made light. In particular, the ability of light to transform the shapes of objects. My work is also concerned with motion and the manner in which movement changes what we see.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Marysville School District.
