ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Late photographer Elwood Jones composed Calla Lilly with a unique and intimate perspective, capturing a subtle depth of light and shadow. It is part of the artist's lifelong body of work dedicated to presenting the "universal expression" of flowers as symbols of "peace, sorrow, love, and joy."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Renton School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Seattle-based psychiatrist Dr. Elwood Jones (1925-2005) was an accomplished photographer, with works collected nationally. Best known for his intimate compositions of flowers, Jones sought to "preserve in imagery their ephemeral beauty."
